Performance and it’s Quality

APEC water systems have experience of over 20 years in designing RO systems in which this system is certified that it will deliver the finest quality of water and also have longer durability. This system is a Gold Standard system which will give you very pure water by removing harmful contaminants like fluoride, chromium, chlorine, arsenic, lead, and many others.

The system filters out water at twice the rate than other traditional RO water filtration systems available in the market. High-quality parts are used to design, assemble this filtration system which ensures a trouble-free filtration system. The system is made in the US which has a ⅜” output design that ensures to provide the water at a higher flow rate.

APEC Water Systems RO-90 ultimate series 5-Stage Filtration System

There are 3-pre filters from which the first stage contains the polypropylene sediment filter which is made up of high-grade material and has high capacity. This filter helps to remove the larger sediments like rust, dust particles. This filter makes the system and membrane life longer by protecting these from larger sediments present in water.

2nd and 3rd stages have the 10-micron premium extruded carbon block filters included for holding the dirt present in the water of smaller size. These filters help to improve the water taste by removing the odor, color, and chlorine from the water. Chemicals like VOCs are also removed by these filters which have high vapor pressure and lower water solubility.

The fourth stage contains the Thin-film Composite (TFC) RO membrane. This TFC membrane is for removing the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) present in water like chromium, radium, lead, fluoride, arsenic, and many other contaminants from water.

The fifth stage is equipped with advanced coconut shell refining carbon also known as TCR (Total Contamination Removal). This filter helps to remove any leftover contaminants from the water to improve the taste of water.

Water Flow of APEC Water Systems RO-90 ultimate series

The water from the main supply first enters the first 3 stages pre-filters and then enters the membrane. Now the water from the membrane which is filtered feeds into the storage tank and from the drain line, the brine water will be drained out from there.

Water Pressure

The most important thing which affects the performance of the RO system is the flow pressure of the water. Standard water pressure is required which should not exceed 85 psi is sufficient to provide the high output of the RO system and fills the storage tank in very little time.

Check Water Quality with TDS meter

You also need to monitor the water quality by testing the water before entering and after leaving the system with the help of a TDS meter. This is advisable because it helps to determine when there is a need to change the membrane of the filtration system after seeing an increase in the TDS number.

You can check the TDS of water by TDS meter by taking tap water in one glass and filtered water in another glass. To make sure that the TDS meter gives an accurate reading, you need to first rinse the both glass and TDS sensor meter with the filtered water. Compare both readings of the TDS meter for tap water and filtered water. Suppose your tap water has a 100ppm TDS rating and filtered water has a 10ppm TDS rating; this means that your RO system removes 90% of the contaminants from your tap water. This is the normal range which implies the good condition of the RO membrane.

When you see that the TDS range of filtered water is increased to 15-20 percent then it is time to change your RO membrane.

Tank Capacity

It will take around 2-3 hours to fill the storage tank. Again it depends on the water pressure in how much time the tank will be filled. If the water pressure is high then the tank will fill much quicker and fill more. The RO system will shut off after filling the tank.

If we are taking an example of a non-pumped RO system for a 4-gallon tank, if water pressure at the inlet of the RO system is 70+ psi, the tank will fill up to 3.1 gallon which is around 100% full. If the water pressure is 60 psi, around 2.8 gallons of the tank will be filled which is 88%. Similarly, if the input water pressure is 50 psi, a 2.5-gallon tank will be filled and for 40 psi, a 1.9-gallon tank will be filled.

A 4-gallon tank includes the total volume of the tank including bladder and air space. If the water pressure is between 80-90 psi, the water storage capacity is 3.2 gallons max for a 4-gallon tank.

What Pressure Required for Ice-Maker Inlet?

Suppose the minimum water pressure requirement at the inlet of your ice maker is around 20-30 psi, then pressure at the input of a non-pump RO system must be more than 50 psi. This is because if the pressure is low then the tank will not fill much to provide the necessary water pressure to the inlet of the ice maker.

If your water pressure is not enough then you can use a permeate pump for increasing the water pressure.

Multiple Outlets from RO system

If you want to use multiple outlets from your RO system then it is required to choose the correct RO system which provides enough pressure according to the water pressure level of your home. This model is designed to fill the tank in a short duration and more fully. It is obvious that if the tank is filling quickly, it will help to deliver good water pressure at the outlets.

We suggest you upgrade your tank to a 14-gallon tank which has 3 times more capacity to hold water than a 4-gallon tank. This will help to provide more water and good pressure at different outlets.  We also suggest not to increase your tubing distance from 40 ft horizontal and 15 ft in height and try that the outlet ports should not be more than 3. After applying these you will get good water pressure at your outlets.

Causes of Premature Membrane failure

These are the common causes for membrane failure :

  • If you are not replacing the filters as per requirement then the membrane life is reduced. There are 3 pre-filters and if the filters are overused then the chlorine present in water would get easily passed to the RO membrane. More chlorine is present in the city water.
  • If the water is coming from the private well, then an overused membrane has not the power to absorb all the sediments present in water which leads to pass the sediments to the filter membrane and make a clog there.
  • If there are living organisms and bacteria present in the water, they will form a very thin layer over the filter membrane which leads to damage. To can add UV light in this case to increase membrane lifespan. UV light helps to destroy the DNA of the living organisms present in the water and stop their potential growth.
  • If your supply of water is very hard which has calcium-like elements then it will form a scale on the membrane. In such a case you should add a water softener before your RO system.
  • If there is any hindrance in draining the wastewater then it will surely damage the membrane. So this is important to make sure that there should be no hindrance in draining out the wastewater to protect the membrane from any potential damage.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation of the system is easy. Any person with basic DIY skills can install this system. You will get a user manual for installing this system step-by-step. You can also refer to this manual for step-by-step installation.

You are not required to spend more time on the maintenance of the system. You just need to change its 3 pre-filters on a regular basis to extend the life of the RO membrane. Protect the system from very cold temperatures or extreme heat. Here is the below-mentioned time frame when to replace each filter.

  • For the 3 pre-filters, should be replaced in 12 months or if the water source is private well water then need to replace the filter sooner as sediments amount are more in well water.
  • For Stage-4 membrane, it is dependent on the usage of water per day, water quality, and pre-filters replacement frequency. Normally, if the water source is from city water then you can replace the membrane between 3-5 years of use. If the water in your home is coming from a private well, then you need to replace the membrane in 2-3 years of use.
  • The stage-5 carbon filter is best to replace in between 3-5 years at the same time you replaced stage-4 membrane.
  • Filter housing O-rings should be replaced in between 3-5 years.

You will get a 2-year manufacturer warranty and lifetime support with the system.
